New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) invites you to an in-person screening of My Love Affair with Marriage at Quad Cinema on October 11th at 7:30pm ET followed by Q&A with director Signe Baumane.

My Love Affair With Marriage follows Zelma on her 23-year quest for perfect love and lasting marriage set against a backdrop of historic events in Eastern Europe.

​Told from a woman’s point of view, the film blends historical, biological, societal, and emotional arcs with a lively sense of humor and musical numbers. This animated film for adults tackles the issues of love, gender norms, domestic violence, fantasies and toxic relationships to propel a woman's journey toward independence and liberation.

NYWIFT Co-Presents a Free Screening of On the Divide

NYWIFT is proud to co-present a screening of On the Divide, which follows the story of three Latinx people living in McAllen, Texas who, despite their views, are connected by the most unexpected of places: the last abortion clinic on the US/Mexico border.

The film is directed by Maya Cueva and Leah Galant.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Leah Galant.

NYWIFT Co-Presents Born in Flames with NewFest

NYWIFT is proud to co-present the NewFest screening of Born in Flames as part of NewFest's Queering the Canon Series. An underground feminist landmark of cinema, Lizzie Borden’s Born in Flames (1983) is brazenly queer, and unapologetically down to disrupt and dismantle the patriarchy. Set in a near future downtown New York ten years after a socialist revolution, radical feminist factions strategize and debate their own agendas as women’s equality remains unfulfilled. With guerilla style filming and a docu-narrative approach, the pulsing energy of NYC and layered political viewpoints might just have you ready to start your own radical queer biker gang. In-person tickets include a guest introduction by Jessica Dunn Rovinelli.

2023 S.W.A.N. (Support Women Artists Now) Day Screening and Reception

Celebrate NYC’s 15th annual International SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day on Saturday, March 25th at SVA Theatre. Join FF2 Media, NYWIFT, SAG-AFTRA, Women in the Arts & Media Coalition (WAMC), and the SVA Theatre for a short films screening/Q&A followed by a reception in recognition of S.W.A.N. (Support Women Artists Now) Day, an annual event on the last Saturday of March that celebrates women artists.

NYU “The Janes” Virtual Screening + Discussion

Join NYU for a free virtual screening of The Janes! This award-winning documentary chronicles the pre-Roe v. Wade era when young female activists who called themselves ‘Jane’ built an underground network for women with unwanted pregnancies, providing safe, low-cost illegal abortions to an estimated 11,000 women.

NYWIFT WFPF-preserved “One Hand Don’t Clap” Screens at MoMA

NYWIFT Member Kavery Kaul’s award-winning 1988 documentary One Hand Don’t Clap chronicling the titans of calypso and soca music will make its U.S. restoration premiere at the Museum of Modern Art.

Digitally restored by the Academy Film Archive and the Women’s Film Preservation Fund of New York Women in Film & Television with additional support from the Leon Levy Foundation, One Hand Don’t Clap reflects the legacy of a vast West Indian-American population, the incredible entrepreneurial growth of their music industry in the US, and their ongoing ties to the traditions that flourish in the Caribbean.
