NYWIFT Code of Conduct

NYWIFT is committed to the advancement of intersectional inclusion in film, television, and media. We represent the women of the media and entertainment industry and as such it is necessary to continue to develop and grow our membership and organization.

By becoming a member of NYWIFT – or by attending a NYWIFT public event – I commit to:

  • Sharing the organization’s values of intersectional inclusion for all, and combatting racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, classism, and other structural oppressions experienced by people of intersectional identities in our community.
  • Expressing any difference of opinion with respect, etiquette, and decorum.
  • Recognizing NYWIFT as a source for my career development and contributing my own expertise to “pay it forward” to the wider NYWIFT community whenever possible or appropriate.
  • Giving space so that all voices can be heard.
  • Treating NYWIFT members, Board Members, staff, interns, volunteers, panelists, contractors, and attendees with mutual respect and courtesy. This includes respecting other people’s boundaries, service, time, and attention.
  • Refraining from the use of harmful, abusive, oppressive, or discriminatory language.
  • Acknowledging that NYWIFT has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to challenges to the physical, mental, and emotional safety of our community, including but not limited to sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and physical intimidation. Bullies have no home here.
  • Recognizing that participation in events is a privilege and respecting that some events have limited attendee capacity. The NYWIFT team will do their best to accommodate requests on a first-come, first-served basis.

I understand that in response to any violations of this code of conduct, NYWIFT may:

  • Challenge offensive or disrespectful language or actions used,
  • Ask me to leave the physical or virtual space, and/or
  • Revoke or suspend my membership and ability to attend events with no refund to my membership
  • Or restrict membership to virtual events only.
