Full Bio
I am a mother and have six grandchildren. I am also a documentary filmmaker, educator and artist. I was born in the Bronx, NY and was raised is Levittown, LI, Queens and Union City, NJ.
Following high school I studied at Friends World College in Mexico, Cuba and hitchhiked throughout Central and South America. While in Cuba I studied with the renown Cuban documentary filmmaker Santiago Alvarez whose teachings and films have had an everlasting impact on me. When I returned to New York City I joined the Newsreel Film collective, which was a production and distribution company founded in 1967 in response to the political turmoil that surrounded the Vietnam war, Civil Rights struggle and the Women_x0019_s movement. It was during this time that I made my first film, MY COUNTRY OCCUPIED.
During the early 1970_x0019_s I wanted to get involved with direct organizing taking place in communities and factories. I left filmmaking and got a job at Maxwell House Coffee as an assemble-line worker in Hoboken, NJ. A
