Ellen Gavin is a writer/director living in Los Angeles and New York. She is the author of screenplays, teleplays and three produced plays that have garnering national awards. Gavin’s theater and film work is born from her experiences as a passionate lesbian feminist activist.

Ellen Gavin is a writer/director living in Los Angeles and New York. She is the author of award-winning screenplays, teleplays and three produced plays that have garnering national awards; she received numerous travel and residency fellowships nationally and internationally. Gavin’s theater and film work is female-driven and socially conscious, born from her experiences as a passionate lesbian feminist activist.

She was a staff writer on an eighteen-episode Nicaraguan half-hour drama entitled Contracorriente, that broadcast on major networks throughout Latin America. Gavin’s screenplays and plays have received awards from NEA, the Rockefeller Foundation, Irvine Foundation and the Fund for New American Plays. Her screenplay Rebels and Roses won First Place in the prestigious Rhode Island International Film Festival Contest. She was the founder and Artistic Director of the 3-stage Brava Theater Center in San Francisco for 23 years.
