What you'll do:
- Maintaining publication schedules and departmental databases, and otherwise tracking the publication process for approximately 10-15 titles per year
- Communicating with authors and agents throughout the publication process, as well as acting as an interdepartmental liaison
- Logging agented submissions for the department, evaluating manuscripts, writing reader reports, and sending rejection letters
- Drafting contract and check requests, generating sales reports and editorial P&Ls, and tracking payments and invoices
- Writing flap copy, title information sheets, and catalog copy
- Basic administrative support, including schedule coordination and travel
What you'll bring:
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional time management
- A genuine interest in book publishing and knowledge of the current reading audience over a broad range of fiction and nonfiction
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines, and work independently
- Proven ability to adapt to an increasingly digital work environment
Ideal Experience:
- 0-1 years; this is an entry-level position
- Preference for internships in the publishing industry or editorial experience in an academic setting
- Candidates with alternative (non-publishing industry-based) office experience are welcome
- Bachelor’s Degree or equal experience
This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
