Film/Video Department Technician

Pratt Institute

Position Duties: Provide technical guidance and support for faculty and students working or teaching in the studios, suites and classrooms. Prepare rooms for instructors each week prior to class (A/V playback systems, editing suites, studios.). Prepare and operate projector/media server for screenings and class presentations.

  •     Oversee the safe operation, set-up, inspection, maintenance, and basic repair of the facility’s digital, sound, lighting and film equipment.
  •     Coordinate the check-in/check-out and reservation process for  equipment, labs, studios and suites.
  •     Demonstrate proper use of equipment to students when needed.
  •     Install and upgrade computer software.
  •     Oversee inventory, secure price quotes, advise on new purchases, and order supplies as needed.
  •     Notify supervisor and send out equipment for repairs as needed.

SALARY is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $56,703-$56,703. The position will be onsite 5 days/wk.

This is a Local 153 Grade 103 Union Position

Qualifications:

  •     Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience required.
  •     Experience: Minimum of five years related experience and thorough knowledge of film/video equipment.
  •     Knowledge: Should have a knowledge of a range of film, video, sound and computer technologies.
  •     Skills: Understanding of industry safety practices. Excellent communication and personal skills required.
  •     Must possess excellent customer service ethic. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students and staff,  as well as demonstrate intercultural competence.
  •     Other: Occasional weekend work during spring and fall semesters. Occasional overtime may be required each semester.
  •     Preferred Experience & Qualifications: Knowledge of IT systems management, equipment check out/in protocols, and an interest in education.
