Reel Works seeks a Teaching Assistant for our Reel Works After-Schools program for the 2020-2021 school year. We are looking for filmmakers who bring fresh ideas in media making and education into our Free Narrative Filmmaking Lab.

The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about the mission of Reel Works and will help foster our filmmaking community.

Responsibilities include:

Teaching Assistant will support the Filmmaking Instructor in a classroom of 10-14 students

Be familiar with the curriculum and daily lesson plans

Report weekly to supervisors about ongoings in classroom

Facilitate conversations in the classroom

Coordinating with mentors to educate and empower young filmmakers.

Mentor students through the creation of their own short films

Receive 15 hours of professional development training from Reel Works or outside training partners: Ramapo, PASE, DOE, etc.

Qualifications:

Background in filmmaking and/or arts education

Able to assist lead Instructor in the facilitation of the class

Some experience in community organizing is helpful, team building and group dynamics

Create a safe learning environment and open communication for all students from a variety of backgrounds

Interact in a professional manner with Reel Works staff, parents, and students as well as work with a diverse set of community-based organizations, residents in various communities, institutional and governmental organizations

Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and writing skills

Be a positive role model to students, school staff and fellow Teaching Artists

Multiple languages is a plus

Salary: This is a part-time position that does not include health benefits. Hourly wage commensurate with experience in filmmaking, technical skills, teaching, and youth development.
