HALMONI’S POT (GRANDMA’S POT)
Director: A. Lauren Lee (NYWIFT Member)
Producer: Ise White (NYWIFT Member)
10 minutes | Narrative Short | 2023 | English/Korean | USA
A loving grandma (halmoni) reluctantly agrees to buy pot for her grandson. But pay full price? Never!

A. L. Lee, (Lauren), is a New York-based filmmaker. Born in New Jersey, she’s lived in (alphabetical order) Boston, Houston, Paris, Philadelphia, Rochester, and Seoul before she realized she was really a New Yorker. She has a BA in violin performance from Eastman School of Music. She has an MFA from Columbia University in screenwriting. Her thesis feature adaptation of “The Legend of Pig-Eye”, a short story about underground boxing in Mississippi, by Rick Bass, won the Best Screenplay award from Columbia. Lauren has made four short films. Won multiple Best Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay awards. “Halmoni’s Pot” (Grandma’s Pot) 2023, a proof-of-concept film for “Hot Pot”, premiered at Palm Springs ShortFest 2023. It also screened at Hamptons Int’l FF, San Diego Int’l FF, Cinequest FF, DisOrient FF, and 14 other film festivals. “Halmoni’s Pot” (Grandma’s Pot) has won two Audience award (DisOrient FF and Vero Beach FF), and the Best Comedy, Best Actor, and Best Original Music awards from NYWIFT Online FF! Lauren and her husband have raised two mischievous boys, and they live with their big boned— not overweight—black cats, Louis and Philippe.

Ise White is a veteran 20 year producer who cut her teeth at Vogue Italy and Bazaar China as a cover editor and producer, casting iconic and recognizable international covers and developing new media projects in conjunction with Hollywood studios.
