On this week’s NYWIFT Talks, we speak with Executive Director at Asian CineVision, Inc, John Carson Woo. We will be discussing the upcoming 2022 Asian American International Film Festival and what to expect from this year’s festival. This conservation will be moderated by NYWIFT Board Member, Sibyl Reymundo-Santiago.
Asian CineVision, Inc. (ACV), is a non profit media arts organization dedicated to producing, promoting and preserving Asian and Asian American media expressions by artists of Asian descent; to ensure that the full spectrum of Asian and Asian American media works reach diverse audiences in Asian American communities and beyond. Since 1978, ACV has presented the annual Asian American International Film Festival, the first and longest film festival of its kind in the U.S. to showcase cinema by, for and about Asian Pacific Americans.

John Carson Woo is co-founder and Director of Woo Art Int’l, a New York based creative services and visual communications studio founded in 1980. Woo Art creates award-winning visual media for a diverse base of clients in the communications, broadcast promotion, exhibit and entertainment industries. John has extensive experience designing and directing for the corporate, exhibition, broadcast and entertainment media. Site specific multi-media installations include the rotunda gallery, Museum of Jewish Heritage, New York; Alticor (Amway) Visitors Center, Grand Rapids, MI; Museum of Chinese In America, New York, NY; created and directed the animated series The Pink Palace, Oxygen Media Network; Producer Fresh Kill directed by Shu Lea Cheang; Producer Garlic=Rich-Air, a wireless network/performance environment directed by Shu Lea Cheang; Executive Producer Slow Jam King directed by Steve Mallorca; co-creator and Executive Producer Cinema Azn, a weekly entertainment news program focusing on the Asian and Asian American entertainment industry, AZN Television. He is board chair for Asian CineVision, the New York based not-for-profit media arts organization, presenter of the Asian American International Film Festival (1978-present). In 2010 he became Executive Director of ACV.
For 30+ years, Sibyl Reymundo-Santiago has been working in film, television & stage both in the US and Asia working with major studios including MyxTV, Regal Films, Star Cinema, Metro Style & ABS-CBN. As President of Sitting Cat Productions, she’s had several films released including the feature film Sam with Executive Producer Mel Brooks and recently, the int’l feature film, Alone/Together on Netflix. She’s a Board Member of the New York Women in Film & Television & SOHO Film Forum; Co-Chair of the AAPI Working Group of the Producers Guild of America & an active member of SAG-AFTRA. She co-produced, Follow Her by multi-award winning director, Sylvia Caminer & the documentary Nomad Cowboys where she received the p.g.a. mark. Sibyl serves her 12th year as the Executive Director & Head of Programming for the SOHO International Film Festival.
