Women #NotWorthLess: Last week, women writers, producers and assistants across Twitter started the trending hashtag #NotWorthLess, sharing their personal stories of pay inequality. It was sparked by screenwriter Adele Lim’s recent decision to walk away from the Crazy Rich Asians sequel in protest of being paid less than her male co-writer.
Bahamas Relief: The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) is a community event that brings Hollywood to The Bahamas December 9-15th, surrounding audiences with a complete film experience, rubbing shoulders with film professionals and the opportunity to network with the who’s who of cinema. This year, BIFF will contribute all revenue after expenses towards Hurricane Dorian Relief for Hope Town, Abaco. In addition, proceeds from BIFF ticket sales will go directly to assisting students affected by Hurricane Dorian with school uniforms, supplies and assistance with school tuition. Simone Butler is a New York–based actor and producer originally from California’s Bay Area, and a graduate of the College of Santa Fe and Royal Holloway University of London. Against these challenges, a gymnastics team emerges as a beacon of possibility for a group of girls determined to create a different future for themselves. Jaime earned her BFA in Acting from PACE University in NYC, appearing Off- Broadway in The Doctor at the Park Avenue Armory and on TV in Difficult People (Hulu), Younger (Paramount+), Jane the Virgin (The CW), Sorry for Your Loss, and Elsbeth (CBS). She is the director, writer, and star of the short film The Sandwich Line, which premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Indy Shorts International Film Festival, and her other writing work has been published in Mixed Asian Media and JoySauce. She’s currently developing several projects and is repped by Gersh + MJ Management. In our interview, Jaime discussed her journey from acting to directing and shared her experience of working in TV.
