Two Studies: A study from Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative in partnership with National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP, of which I was the founding organizational Chairperson) and Wise Entertainment, shows how Hollywood has failed the Latinx community when it comes to their portrayal in popular movies – in terms of representation, stereotyping and inclusion (or lack thereof) in key positions behind the camera. In somewhat better news, the latest “Boxed In” study from SDSU’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film shows that female TV representation both on and off screen hit “historic highs” this year (though of course “historic highs” is still relative and women are not making up anywhere near 51% of any key positions).
Unequal Pay: Crazy Rich Asians co-writer Adele Lim has left the project over pay disparity; she discovered that she was being significantly less than a male writer on the project.
Michele Clapton: This great video with 2019 NYWIFT Designing Women honoree Michele Clapton gives some insight in to her creative process designing the costumes for the final season of Game of Thrones (and it includes some of the costumes we were lucky enough to have on display at our event this year!).

In recent years, Zineb has expanded into writing and directing. Her short films Interruption and Fresh Kills both earned Oscar qualifications in 2023 and 2025. After watching Interruption, Sigourney Weaver praised Zineb’s work as a filmmaker. Zineb is currently writing a period drama TV series. Shakespeare’s Monologues Illuminated with Sami Plotkin; ‘wichcraft: craft a sandwich into a meal–and a meal into a sandwich’ for chefs Tom Colicchio and Sisha Ortuzar; and the Terrific Toddlers picture books with Carol Zeavin. She’s also a story consultant for documentarian George Nierenberg. In our interview, Rhona shares insight on pivoting careers, the lessons she’s learned along the way, and all things Shakespeare.

She is the director and producer of an award-winning short documentary about later abortion called Someone You Know, which premiered at the 2024 Athena Film Festival. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for My Name Is Siri, an autism awareness documentary that premiered on PBS. In 2025, Asha executive produced and co-hosted an award-winning audio and video series about Latin America’s Green Wave abortion rights movement called Green Tide Rising. Her latest short documentary is A Tiny Revolution, the story of how Meg Crane invented the first home pregnancy test.
