Power Player Breakfast: Stephanie Laing, Executive Producer, Veep

The Power Player Breakfast Series brings women at the top of their career game to NYWIFT for intimate, inspiring discussions about their current projects, working their way to the top and other exciting industry insights! For June, we welcome Power Player Breakfast: Stephanie Laing, Executive Producer, Veep.

Stephanie Laing knows the power of comedy. In addition to the HBO hit Veep, Laing has also been responsible for shows such as Tracey Takes On... (with Tracey Ullman), Little Britain, and Eastbound & Down. Juggling a family, a globe-trotting travel schedule and multiple HBO hits, most days she relies heavily on laughter to keep her head above the chaos. With seven Emmy nominations and one win, Laing has cemented her place as a top producer, and as one of HBO's leading ladies of smart laughs.

Laing made this name for herself working among the best of the industry. She launched her career partnering with Tracy Ullman on Tracey Takes On... She moved on to the HBO series Little Britain, Documental, and then Eastbound and Down, rising to become Executive Producer during the fourth season. Soon after came Veep, a comedy powerhouse that perfectly suits Laing's style. Between seasons she produced Cinemax's Banshee. These shows have brought her together with comedy giants such as Matt Lucas, David Williams, Justin Theroux, Steve Coogan, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Armando Iannucci and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as well as Ullman and McBride.

Recently, Laing added directing to her skill-set, running the second unit on both Veep and Banshee, and helming multiple episodes of Veep. She has also produced and directed a short film, Trouble & the Shadowy Deathblow. She is currently Executive Producing a new Danny McBride HBO series, Vice Principals.

Laing contributes regularly to Refinery29, The Huffington Post, and Yahoo!, and writes a blog entitled Put Your Pretty On. She is also passionate about philanthropic work, producing PSAs and raising money for a variety of causes.

Laing is an expert in balancing an enviably vibrant career with a strong family life, beautifully managing to bring passion for life to each minute of her day. She lives in Brooklyn with the most important focus of her life, her three children. Hint: a strong sense of humor helps. Come hear how she does it all with such grace and style.
