For April, we welcome Jana Bennett of A+E Networks, who will speak about her broadcasting career spanning both US and UK markets.
As President of FYI and LMN, Bennett oversees all creative and business matters including programming, marketing, strategic planning, brand development and acquisitions for two of the fastest networks in the A+E portfolio. Prior to joining A+E in 2013, Bennett worked at BBC Networks, first as Director of BBC Television and then as President of of BBC Worldwide Networks and Global BBC iPlayer.
Throughout her tenure at BBC, Bennett played a pivotal role in shaping their television offerings and related online services. As Director of Television, she managed BBC's portfolio of six free-to-air channels in the UK, helping to launch award winning series across multiple genres including Planet Earth, Masterchef, Sherlock and Doctor Who. Upon her promotion to BBC Worldwide, the network's commercial arm, she supervised 16 branded channels across 100 countries, reaching 380 million subscriber homes. Under her leadership, the channel's businesses became the company's fastest growing division in terms of revenue. She also launched BBC's first global events such as Royal Wedding and Planet Earth Live, and led the development and launch of subscription VOD to expand digital offerings.
Bennett has also achieved success in US-based networks, where she has served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of TLC and Discovery Pictures. While at Discovery, she re-defined and re-branded TLC, launching hit series like Trading Spaces and What Not to Wear.
