3/6: Polish Filmmakers NYC Presents Code Blue

Polish Filmmakers NYC, founded by NYWIFT member Agata Drogowska, will present the film Code Blue, a unique, stark and haunting examination of mortality, sex and compassion, written and directed by Urszula Antoniak.

Where: Tribeca Film Center (375 Greenwich Street, between North Moore and Franklin)
When: Thursday, March 6th, 7 p.m.

Focusing on a nurse named Marian (Belgian actress Bien de Moor), Code Blue tells a story of extreme solitude in an urban landscape that’s at once magnetic and univiting. As Marian goes to socially unacceptable extremes in offering relief to her patients, Antoniak dares the viewer with her brave examination of female sexuality that owes as much to Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer as it does to Austrian director Michael Haneke. The 2011 film is a challenging work that sparked controversy upon its Cannes Film Festival premiere, but also one that continues to fascinate viewers worldwide.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Antoniak.

Urszula Antoniak was born in Poland and started her filmmaking career in Holland. She earned recognition for her early work, including the highly acclaimed Nothing Personal starring Stephen Rea, and developed a unique audiovisual language. Code Blue, a Dutch-Danish co-production, was admitted to the prestigious Quinzaine des Réalisateurs of the Cannes Film Festival and earned two Golden Calfs at the Netherlands Film Festival for Best Cinematography and Best Sound Design. Antoniak recently completed a new feature, Nude Area, and is developing other projects in her native Poland.
