NYWIFT members invited to August Ventura's "27" on July 25: Free
The Professional Women Singers Association presents “27” the Verdi documentary film project.
With an eye on the Verdi bicentennial, August Ventura, author, film-maker and Verdi devotee, is preparing the documentary film entitled "27" about the people of Parma and their unique relationship with the composer's 27 operas. Drawing from his own footage and some archival findings, the talk will provide a fascinating glimpse into Parma's Verdi Clubs, among Teatro Regio's famed and feared loggionisti and some everyday people for whom Verdi's operas transcend art and entertainment to become something of a life-force.
The talk will be capped by live-SKYPE conversation with the soprano Margherita Roberti who will offer fascinating recollections of performing in Parma in the early '60's as well as inspiring insights into her own brave career choices that led her to pursue a singing career abroad.
