Rachel Haot is on the front lines of developing a new media roadmap for New York City in her role as the metropolis' Chief Digital Officer. Her unit, NYC Digital, is a key part of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. In this revealing session, she'll discuss the opportunities that are emerging for the city's entertainment and information industry and also talk about her career trajectory.
New York's digital roadmap focuses on five core pillars: access, education, open government, engagement and industry. The full strategy is available at nyc.gov/digital. In addition to providing strategic guidance, NYC Digital is focused on enhancing the way that city government engages with New Yorkers online, and on supporting and partnering with the thriving tech industry.
Prior to her current role, Haot (formerly Rachel Sterne) was an independent digital strategy consultant and was CEO of GroundReport, a global, crowdsourced news startup. She founded GroundReport in 2006 with the mission to democratize the media and help the world share its stories. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, specializing in social media and entrepreneurship.
A lifelong New Yorker, Haot was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012, and she serves on the Digital Advisory Board of Women@NBCU and the New York/New Jersey 2014 Super Bowl Social Media Advisory Committee.
NYWIFT programs, screenings and events are supported, in part, by grants
from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with
the City Council, and New York State Council on the Arts with the
support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
