6:30 pm: Art of Freedom (2011)
Written and directed by Wojciech Słota and Marek Kłosowicz (length: 71 minutes)
This documentary tells the stories of Polish mountain climbing expeditions during Soviet rule, including one women’s group led by Wanda Rutkiewicz. According to Polskie Radio, the film “depicts the essence of Himalaism — overcoming weaknesses of the human body in the most extreme conditions. It is also a story of endurance, solidarity, trust and concern for the overall well-being of the team. Himalaism is the school of life, a test of survival, and the experience of true freedom.” Watch the trailer.
