Soundtracks for Film, Television and Theater: Everything You Need to Know
This workshop will cover the basics filmmakers and theater producers need to know for clearing music themselves or for having a dialogue with their music supervisor/consultant.
Topics to be covered include:
What to consider during pre-production/production.
Strategies for budgeting for film, trailers and for theater.
How to find out who owns each part of a song.
Rights: what is covered and what may be excluded.
How to submit a request for rights.
What fair use covers.
Darnetha Lincoln M'Baye
is a music consultant with 15 years experience in the entertainment industry. She freelanced in film production before landing at EMI Music Publishing, where she rose through the ranks to become the VP of film and stage. M'Baye has negotiated hundreds of music deals for TV, films, trailers, musicals and dance. Her roster of film and TV clients includes Warner Bros., The Weinstein Co., ESPN, BET and
The Oprah Winfrey Show
. For theater, she has negotiated numerous deals, including the Broadway/West End productions of
Rock Of Ages
,
Priscilla Queen Of The Desert
, and
Death Of A Salesman
. Most notably, she worked with Andrew Lloyd Weber to negotiate the worldwide revival of the
Wizard Of Oz
. She has been a guest speaker at New York University and The School of Visual Arts.
